I was surprised as I figured there would have been a market for SM stands. Seems all the stands are just one size. I decided to modify my Harbor Frieght stand just to make it a bit easier to get the bike on and off of it.
This is pretty straight forward, drill the rivets out to remove the rubber top. This is just a precaution. The rivets are aluminum so they aren't hard to remove.
The top is only welded on the outside, so it's quick and easy to grind through and remove.
I cut 1.5" off mine. This is probably the absolutely most I would recommend cutting off these stands for these bikes. I would still take your own measurements though. At 1.5" the top will almost still fit on, the tubes have to be bent inward just slightly. I heated them with some MAPP gas and gave them a good smack and it was there. All the metal is thin, so for welding take it easy. I refinished mine with some Rustoleum.
The rivets are 3/16" aluminum.
Before and after shots, with the bike on the stand, this is the rear tire.
I know 1.5" doesn't sound like much, but it does make a difference. I have other stands for quick things, but I still prefer this style for things that require the bike to sit on the stand for some time.
