Well finally all torn down. Done, at least with the disassembly.

Now time to start some cleanup and and all sorts of other maintenance things that need done.

I don't know. I've also noticed they are kind of a pain to work on for being pretty open too.

Oh well, everything you work on has its own quirks.

Starting the swap over to stainless bolts. On my supermoto I did this but, I left them as is. However on the Harley going to polish them so they don't stand out as much.

It only takes a few seconds on the bench grinder with some polishing compound to make them shine. They aren't quite as bright as chrome, but I won't have to worry about them rusting either. Especially in the centers. As always there's some bolts that need to stay graded, that I can't replace, but those where never chrome bolts anyways.

you can also check the bolts in a drill and spin them against a rag full of polish.

That might be safer. As my bench grinder is a grinder, and not a polisher. It's large, and not really meant to polish things. It has a habit of heating and throwing things if you're not real careful. Once of these days I need to buy a dedicated bench polisher. Pretty certain polishers are slower. I never claimed to be an expert though.

Well one of the few things I still haven't been able to find has been a new decal for the ignition switch. Hopefully found someone that can make one. Had to make a template to send them though (as I don't want to send in my original, that is unobtainium):

Obviously I still need to make an artwork file too. Hopefully it works out, as then it might be a source for all these year Harley's.

Well my paint guy called and wanted me to stop by and look at the Harley parts to see if they had enough metallic on them. He said he tried taking pictures, but the pictures just look like crap (he's not wrong, it is hard to get pictures of these). It's really wild. In the sunlight the parts almost look straight red, the metallic almost is hard to see. In the shade / dark, the parts are almost entirely silver there is so much metallic. Half lit, it's a happy medium. It is hard to capture in a picture though. The color is looking good though.

These are still rough, they still need to be sanded, cleared (the final layers clear) and polished. So they don't have the "shine" to them yet.

One in some light:

One in the dark:

Should be real interesting next to all the new chrome and such.
