R6 Front Wheel Bearings

Post by ohioyj »

Well had the R6 out recently and the front end just didn't feel right. Ended up needing to replace the front wheel bearings. Had a heck of a time getting them out as there really wasn't anything to grab a hold:

@Aaron Coomer (3.504) saved the day with the blind hole puller suggestion. Slider hammer still wouldn't get it though, they were exceptionally stubborn. Ended up putting the hole wheel in the press (barely fit with the tire mounted):

I actually do have an OEM Yamaha manual, however it's leaves something to be desired about all this. After
reading this guide / article, I'm fairly convinced the OEM bearings where pressed in a bit too far.

As always had to adjust my bearing / seal installer. Seems like I never have the right sizes in my kit:

Found a kit on Amazon that has disks every 1mm, think I'm going to order that set. Somehow I think I'd still not have the right size.

i have a similar bearing/race/seal driver kit, it works well. theres always the old "use a socket" trick, but its never precise.

just heat the bore with a heat gun, while the new bearings sit in the freezer. they'll nearly fall in.
