Spring is Almost Here

Springs getting close.. Anyone else been busy out in the garage?

I've had tires and oil starting to show up to get things ready:



Also finally gotten stripping anodizing down, now if I could get the polishing stuff down as as good. It's probably just me being lazy and not wanting to spend enough time on the polishing. However, it doesn't look that bad. Been working on more shiny stuff for the DRZ:

I just installed a new camshaft in my scooter yesterday, and i've been doing a lot of spring prep on other folks bikes.

polishing is all in the prep. you'll need to spend more time sanding to get to a better finish, but honestly I'd be happy where the finish is currently. if you leave it raw its going to corrode and oxidize the finish away anyways, so i usually dont go to crazy on parts i'm not planning to coat in some sort of clear finish.

i watched a video last night from Aaron Colton. he does a bunch of bike builds and his latest he does an Indian scout where he strips the tank to raw steel and leaves the finish looking brushed. what was interesting was the ceracoat clear finish he applied to protect. it didn't need any special tools or ovens.

Did you find a performance cam for the scooter, or is this maintenance?

As for the polishing above, that's actually with no sanding. (As mentioned, I'm being lazy about it). I might have to sand the one piece some to get in the edges some.

its a performance cam for the scoot. I've had it for over a year sitting on a shelf, just got around to installing it. install required removing the engine and i was being lazy.

its supposed to be a 1-1.5hp bump... on a 150cc scooter thats a 10% increase.

i'm hoping that i'll be able to hold 70mph without a draft.

first ride on the camshaft today. if theres a bump in power, its slight. i think i need to tune on the variator to put the engine in the optimal RPM range for this cam, which is a higher rpm range.

in the mid theres a noticeable bump as it pulls up hills better. the felt acceleration is better from 10mph - about 45mph.

once the bike gets to 50mph the power seems to stall a bit. which it did before too. then out on the highway the power is sneaky. it doesn't feel faster, but when i look down i'm doing a higher MPH than expected.

its way too much work to go back at this point, so i'm keeping it like this. no other plans for higher power output for the meantime.

Do you think it could be in the jetting? (is that EFI?)

its injected, fueling may need tweaked, but what i have to buy to be able to do that isn't worth it.

i have a pack of different variator weights, i'll need to sit down and play with that setup.

Well the bikes are basically ready for spring. So it was time to take care of a couple things on the Jeep. This one of 8 shackle bushings from the front end of my Jeep (they are polyurethane too). No wonder it's all over the place:



I've gotten to where I try and clean and paint everything and anything while it's apart. Especially with as much stuff as this Jeep went through. It needs as much rust proofing as it can get:



Give the paint a couple days to dry good, then grease everything and put it back together.
